Overview

  • Dr. Lora Kahn, a fellowship-trained stereotactic and functional neurosurgeon, realized her passion for helping patients with neuroscientific disease in high school, which inspired her to work for Nobel Laureate Dr. Eric Kandel while in college and complete a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Fellowship under his mentorship during medical school. In 2012, Dr. Kahn moved to New Orleans to complete her residency at Tulane University School of Medicine and Ochsner Health System, where she enjoyed comprehensive training in all aspects of neurosurgery, including neurotrauma and critical care, tumors of the brain and spine, pediatric neurosurgery, peripheral nerve surgery, and degenerative spine disease. She developed special interests in deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy for Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia and obsessive-compulsive disorder, together with surgical treatments for epilepsy. Her passion for treating patients with movement disorders, seizures and neuropsychiatric disease, along with her research background, motivated her to seek specialized fellowship training with Drs. Aviva Abosch and Steven Ojemann. Dr. Kahn is excited to return to New Orleans to join Ochsner Health after her fellowship's completion to provide the latest in movement disorder and seizure neurosurgical treatment to the people of the Gulf South Her research interests include electrophysiologic correlations of epilepsy and movement disorders in sleep states and safe application of neuromodulation for treatment of debilitating psychiatric disease.
