Overview
- Sangeeta Shah, MD, FACC, FASE, is co-director of the adult congenital heart program and director of the cardiovascular MRI at Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute. She grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and received her medical degree from Louisiana State University in Shreveport. Dr. Shah initially trained at Ochsner Medical Center for internal medicine and then at the University of Texas in Galveston, the University of South Florida, Washington Hospital Center, and Georgetown University for cardiology and cardiology subspecialties.She joined the adult congenital heart team in 2005 and has been actively been involved in the development of the department. She has presented on television, in newspapers, and in 2011, she lobbied on Capitol Hill to advocate for the appropriate care of adults with ACHD. In 2013, she was featured on Best Doctors of New Orleans with an article on her work with ACHD. She has authored several articles for ACHD, her most notable being Best Practices in Managing Transition to Adulthood for Adolescents with Congenital Heart Disease for the American Heart Association. Academically, she has given several grand rounds, talks at nation at national conferences and has been on the American College of Cardiology Annual Scientific Session Program Committee for Congenital Heart Solutions from 2012 to 2015.In addition to caring for adults born with congenital heart disease, she is actively involved in cardiovascular imaging. She is trained in echocardiography, MRI, CT, and nuclear cardiovascular imaging. She is currently president of the Imaging Society of Louisiana whose mission is to educate and advance its members to provide optimal patient care.Through all her work, Dr. Shah's passion is teaching her patients, medical personnel and medical trainees. In 2013 she became Associate Professor of Ochsner Clinical School, University of Queensland. She is Director, Cardiovascular Medical Subspecialties for the Ochsner Clinical School of Medicine for 4th-year medical school students. She has also won teacher or mentor of the year for 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2013.In 2019, Dr. Shah was promoted to the Steering Committee of the Board of Governors for the American College of Cardiology. The Board of Governors (BOG) serves as the grassroots governing body of the College and the members' voice in a member-driven organization. Members in all 50 US states, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico are represented at the national level by their ACC elected governor, who also serves as their chapter president at the state level.
