Dr. Burke J. Brooks earned his medical degree from LSU. He completed his residency at Charity Hospital in New Orleans and his fellowship at the National Cancer Institute's Warren Grant Magnuson Clinical Research Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine-Medical Oncology. Dr. Brooks has been on staff at Ochsner since 1987.
His leadership positions at Ochsner have included Chief of Medicine, Chief of Medical Subspecialties, Chairman of the Research Committee, membership on the Research Advisory Committee, and was a former member on the Board of Governors of Ochsner Clinic Foundation. He also holds an elected position on the Board of Governors of the Ochsner Clinic Foundation.
Dr. Brooks has written many articles for scientific medical publications and has written chapters for several oncology textbooks. Dr. Brooks' expertise is in lung cancer, breast cancer treatment and prevention, and cancer genetics.
